Project portfolio management for mid-sized companies.
Mid-sized companies rarely run too few projects – usually too many. Each one matters to someone, none is stopped, and in the end everyone waits for the same three experts. Project portfolio management means deciding on purpose what runs now, what waits and what stops.

Why lists are not enough.
A spreadsheet shows projects, but not whether together they fit the budget or whether the people are there. It doesn’t show which assumptions later turned out wrong either – and it only lives as long as someone maintains it.
Four rules for a lean portfolio.
Same criteria for all: attractiveness and risk, set by management.
A ceiling: budget and capacity per fiscal year, not “we’ll see”.
Stopping is allowed: a project in the bunker is not a failure but freed-up capacity.
A fixed rhythm: a portfolio review every quarter, with a baseline to compare.
How to apply the rules.
All projects in one list with status, priority, duration and values per fiscal year. The budget line shows when it gets tight. Capacity planning asks for skills, not names, and shows bottlenecks early.
Plan variants allow “what if” without touching the current plan. Frozen baselines and actuals show after a year what actually happened.
